Implementation Of The Heian Shodan Kata At The Lemkari Dojo, West Pasaman
ABSTRACT
Based on observations at the Lemkari Dojo in Pasaman Barat, the performance of Heian Shodan kata by white-belt karateka is still not optimal. The movements were found to be lacking in fluency, not in sync with the correct rhythm, and some karateka performed the techniques carelessly. Additionally, their movements did not reflect good physical conditioning. This study aims to describe the execution of Heian Shodan kata and analyze the accuracy of the techniques based on the proper standards, serving as an evaluation tool for improving training effectiveness. This is a descriptive study using purposive sampling, involving 12 white-belt karateka (6 males and 6 females) from a total population of 57. The instrument used was a kata performance test utilizing a manual scoring format in PowerPoint Show (.ppsx), with assessments conducted by three judges based on kata scoring criteria. Data analysis was performed using scoring and descriptive percentage analysis. The results showed that 4 karateka (33.3%) were categorized as “good,” 5 (41.7%) as “fair,” and 3 (25%) as “poor.” It can be concluded that the participants’ skills in performing the Heian Shodan kata varied, with the majority falling into the “fair” category.
