Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between eye-hand coordination and free throw shooting ability in female basketball athletes at Padang State University. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational descriptive design. The research subjects consisted of 12 female basketball athletes from Padang State University who were selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through two types of tests, namely the eye-hand coordination test using the Throws Overhead and Under Arrest Test and the free throw shooting ability test with 15 attempts at shooting the ball into the hoop. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test with the help of the SPSS version 25 program. The results of the analysis showed a significant relationship between hand-eye coordination and free throw shooting ability with a correlation value of 0.833 at a significance level of α = 0.05. This means that the better the eye-hand coordination of athletes, the higher their ability to shoot free throws with accurate accuracy. Thus, eye-hand coordination plays an important role in the effectiveness of free throw shooting techniques, and improving coordinative abilities needs to be a major focus in university-level basketball training programs.
